This year, Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians is celebrating its 90th anniversary. The Founding Convention of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers took place on 4-5 May 1934 in Warsaw. The statute of the Association was adopted during this Convention, and then the first Management Board composed of the following persons was appointed: Andrzej Pszenicki – the President, Stefan Bryła and Wacław Paszkowski (Vice-Presidents), Jerzy Nechay (the Secretary), and Wacław Żenczykowski (the Treasurer). That is how the beautiful and rich history of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers started. The official operation of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers was disrupted by the German attack on Poland on 1 September 1939, and this activity was resumed on 24 September 1945. The decision to join the Polish Association of Civil Engineers with the Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians of the Polish Federation of Engineering Associations was taken during the organisational Convention of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians which took place on 14-15 June 1948 in Warsaw, while the resolution of the Main Board of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians to recognise the continuation of association movement of constructors was adopted on 2 February 1993. Today, prof. Maria Kaszyńska, D. Sc., Eng. is the President of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians for the second term, as the first woman in the ninety-year history of the Association.

Since 1989, the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians has organised the nationwide competition called “Construction of the Year”. The competition is one of the most prestigious reviews of the achievements of the Polish construction and it promotes contractors, designers, investors and local self-governments. The purpose of the competition is to select the construction objects on which distinguishable realisation results have been achieved, and to award the winners.

There is a Foundation at the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians which purpose is to support the statutory operation of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians, and to publish the magazines of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians
– the ninety-five year old “Construction Review” and the eighty-six year old “Engineering and Construction”.
